Boundaries unchanged

The local electorate of MacKillop will remain the second safest of the 47 seats in the House of Assembly.

The final report of the Electoral Boundaries Redistribution Commission was released last week.

In line with its earlier draft recommendation, the boundaries of MacKillop will remain unchanged and the margin is 22.7%.

The only safer seat in South Australia is held by Labor Premier Peter Malinauskas with 23.1% in the inner suburban seat of Croydon.

MacKillop has been held by Independent and former Liberal Party backbencher Nick McBride since 2018.

The seat of Mount Gambier comprises the Mount Gambier City and Grant councils and its boundaries are also unchanged.

Incumbent Troy Bell was elected as a Liberal in 2014 and has since retained it as an Independent in 2018 and 2022. His margin is 13.9%.

The Liberal Party is now expected to finalise its candidates for MacKillop and the 46 other seats in the House of Assembly for the March 2026 election.

Meanwhile, former Mount Gambier teacher and Liberal backbencher Penny Pratt faces a tough task in retaining her Lower North seat of Frome.

The seat is now regarded as marginal as new boundaries will slash her margin from 8.8% to just 3.9%.
