Bowlers brave weather

As many as 30 players registered to play at the Millicent Bowls Club over the weekend, despite  weather dampening part of proceedings.

Participants played in the 2-4-2 game of 20 ends, with rain giving way to sunny conditions for much of the afternoon, in what turned out to be a perfect day for bowls.

The winning team was David Botting and Iain Campbell, pictured right, who took home the  $30 prize pool with a score of 34+15.

Runners-up for the day were Arthur O’Connell and Sarah Ross with a score of 33+17, receiving the $5 bar voucher.

Other winning teams for the  day were Peter Dunnicliff, Carl Schapel with scores of 32+15, and the triple of Graham Loveday, David Taylor and Neil Whelan with 32+10.

Sam Schofield and Bill Burdon scored 32+7, while Malcolm Wright and Peter Scanlon scored 32+1.

But in sad news, members were informed of the passing of one of the club’s past presidents, Lance Evans.

Tournament Organiser Brian Roper asked all members to be  upstanding and observe a minute’s silence for Evans, who was  president from 2008 to 2010.
