Bowls greens glisten for pennant round

The fourth round of all Lower South East Bowls Association pennants was played on Friday and Saturday.

The weather gods smiled on the greens on Friday, providing a pleasant day for lawn bowls while Saturday was very windy, making it a difficult day for all players.

The Penola Division 1 ladies played away at Port MacDonnell and lost 46 shots to 49.

The team skippered by Kaye Batt won by one shot and the team skippered by Gail Hetherington lost by four, with the side now sitting third on the ladder.

The Division 2 ladies played at Penola against Beachport and won 57 shots to 38.

The team skippered by Christine Skeer drew 24 shots each while the team skippered by Kathy Brooks won 33 shots to 14 and now sit fifth on the ladder.

The Division 2 open pennants played away at Port MacDonnell in very windy conditions and won 88 shots to 68.

The rink skippered by Roger Gibbs won by 11 shots, the rink skippered by Peter Thompson lost by three and the rink skippered by Scott Degenhardt won by 12, with the Penola Division 2 team now second on the ladder.

The Division 3 North side played at Penola against Millicent and lost by 18 shots 62-80.

The rink skippered by Wayne Wachtel won by four, Kathy Brooks’ rink lost by 17 and Leslie Clifton’s rink lost by five.

The Division 3 South team played away at Beachport and won by 45 shots, 93-48.

The team skippered by Peter Starick won by 17 shots, Adrian Wicks’ rink won by eight and Don Kilsby’s rink won by 20.

Next week Penola’s Division 2 and Division South teams both play away at Mount Gambier RSL.

The Division 3 North team will play at home against Kalangadoo, the ladies Division 1 team will play at home against Kingston while the Division 2 team will travel to Mount Gambier RSL.

The Night Bowls will be starting on Wednesday, November 15 commencing at 6.30pm.

All prospective night bowlers are welcome.

Club bowls are available for anyone who does not have any bowls of their own.

The Majella Triples will be held this Sunday at 1pm.

Social bowls are held every Wednesday afternoon and anybody is welcome to play and is requested to be at the club by 1pm.
