The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2021 season last Thursday night with a Mixed Triples Championship. After no play last year the association was keen to get the season under way.
The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association opened its 2021 season with the Miller Timber Joinery/ Mt Gambier Isuzu Utes Mixed Triples Championship with President Stephen Von Duve greeting all players.
The official formalities took place with President Stephen Von Duve inviting the association’s Patroness Elma Attiwill to roll the first jack and long time player Kath Hearne to roll the first bowl to officially open the 2021 season.
The Mixed Triples Championship followed with 17 team entries, with the team from the Commercial Club of Mary Lockwood, Rod Fleming and Michael Cameron defeating the Blue Lake Bowlers team of Kevin Jones, Emma Freemantle and Thomas Butler in the first semi-final 7 shots to 3 and in the second Semi-Final the combined team of Jason Kuring, Keisha Pearson and Fiona Pearson took victory over the inform Moorak team Nola Spencer, Gary Walters and Tim Radley 10 shots to 5.
The final was rather close with the Pearson team scoring three shots on the first end, but only to drop four shots on the very next end. The scores stayed tight for the remainder of the game with the scores level on the last end but Cameron’s team knocked the jack off the mat to give the Post-Tel/Wandilo team of Jason Kuring, Keisha Pearson and Fiona Pearson victory and claim the first Association championship for the year, the Miller Timber Joinery/ Mt Gambier Isuzu Utes Mixed Triples Championship 10 shots to 6.
In the consolation final two Kongorong teams met each other but the Kongorong team that prevailed to win was Christine Kerr, Glen Bowmer and Des Allen defeating the hard trying team of Vince Mancuso, Shane Glynn and Heather Glynn beating them 10 shots to 5.
