Millicent community radio station 5 THE-FM is set to remain on-air at least until the end of 2022.

The news of a temporary licence extension was made on the station’s social media presence on Tuesday morning.

“The Board of 5 THE-FM is pleased to announce their Licence to Broadcast has been extended from October 3 to December 30 or until a decision about the renewal has been made by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA),” stated the social media post.

The statement went on to say the 5 THE-FM Board has provided the required documents to the authorities to process the licence renewal and the investigations caused by the complaints made by two Millicent residents about the station made earlier this year.

Community radio stations across Australia are obliged to renew their ACMA licences every five years and the 5 THE-FM licence is due for renewal.

Meanwhile, the annual general meeting of 5-THE-FM will be held at the station at 2pm on Saturday.

The SE Voice has sought a response from 5 THE-FM while an ACMA spokesperson has stated the authority will not be making a comment.
