North Gambier v East Gambier
Over at Vansittart Park North Gambier was just able to hang on for a tight victory against winless East Gambier.
The final score showed how tight a contest it was with North Gambier 59 (9.5) just beating East Gambier 56 (7.14).
A strong start in the first quarter had North Gambier 10 points in front with 3.1 (19) to East Gambier’s 1.3 (9).
In the second quarter North Gambier further extended the lead to 26 points with some inaccurate kicking costing East Gambier.
The Doggies managed to kick four behinds for the quarter to the home side’s 3.2.
At half time the game looked as if the Tigers would run away with it from the bottom placed East Gambier, however the visitors came back out fighting and looking to get back into the game.
North Gambier kicked 2.1 for the quarter to just keep the lead, however East Gambier piled on the goals as the side found some form in front of goals, kicking an impressive 6.1 (37) in the quarter, bringing its score to 50 points with a score of 7.8.
North Gambier’s 52 had the Tigers just maintaining the lead going into three quarter time.
The final quarter was a fiercely contested battle between the two teams, as the match turned into a scrap in the wet conditions.
Neither side was able to break away in a desperate quarter.
North Gambier needed a win to keep in touch with the top two, while East Gambier was looking for its first win since April last year.
Inaccurate kicking proved costly for East Gambier, with six scoring shots for the quarter, four more than the home side, but none converted into goals
North Gambier managed one through the big sticks, which proved the difference between the two sides, with the Tigers claiming the win 9.5 (59) to East Gambier’s (7.14) 56.
For North Gambier, Nick McInerney, Jake Schutz, Josh Jenner, Sam Stafford, Sam Egan and Tyson Christophersen were named as the best players.
They played crucial roles in securing the victory for the Tigers.
On the other hand, Sam Lock, Shaun Lock, Jack Lawrence, Angus Clarke, Nicholas Lock and John Forster were recognised as the best players for East Gambier.
Despite the loss, these players displayed commendable performances throughout the game.
Nick McInerney had an outstanding game for North Gambier by contributing two goals, while Nicholas Lock had a notable performance for East Gambierby kicking two of his own.
