Business memories rekindled

There was an overwhelming response as almost 50 locals recently got together at the South East Family History Group Research Centre to recall their memories of Millicent’s main business thoroughfare.

The SEFHG has been buoyed by its first such open forum and it has arranged another.

It will again be held at the SEFHG Research Centre on Tuesday, August 8 at 1.30pm.

The SEFHG would like to hear memories of George Street back in the 1950s and 60s.

Among the participants at the July forum was 90-year-old Peter Hutchesson whose family ran a grocery store which was part of the Four-Square marketing chain.

The August forum will feature 30 slides of prominent Millicent buildings of the 1970s.

The SEFHG holds its regular monthly meetings at night, but the first afternoon forum encouraged the participation of those aged in their 80s and 90s.
