Busy term coming up for local Lions

SEVENTEEN Lions Club Members and guests enjoyed the hospitality of the Bahgallah Hall Social Club at our 20th February Dinner Meeting.

The pleasant amenity of the Bahgallah Hall in the bushland setting added to the charm and friendship of the occasion.

As usual, a delightful two course meal of roast corn beef and delicious desserts fully satisfied the taste buds of the gathering.

On Saturday 22nd February, Lions Club members joined other volunteers at two of the entrance gates of the Heywood Wood, Wine and Roses Festival.

A maximum temperature of 37 degrees celsius made for very unpleasant weather conditions at the venue.

Unfortunately the heat and total fire ban deterred many afternoon visitors as they waited for the more pleasant, but still very hot, conditions of the evening to enjoy the multiple musical concerts.

We do hope that organisers were able to make a dent in the many expenses of the annual event. It was very pleasing to see many visitors from Casterton joining the gathering at Heywood.

Coming up …

THE Sandford Music Festival is scheduled for the Labor Day week on 7th, 8th, 9th March at the Sandford Recreation Reserve.

The Lions Club of Casterton will have hot food on sale for patrons of the event from 5pm on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

We now can definitely confirm that after a year off, the Lions Club Debutante Ball is back on the calendar for the evening of Friday, 23rd May at the Casterton Town Hall.

Eleven debutantes and partners have confirmed their participation for the 2025 ball.

They are preparing themselves for the first practise sessions with trainers Helen and Mark at the Lions Club Anglican Hall Clubrooms on Sunday, 6th April.

The primary schools’ Young Youth of the Year Public Speaking Competition will be held in early Term 2.

The first visitations of the judges to each of our five schools will be held in the week beginning 28th April, with the final scheduled for the week beginning 26th May at Coleraine.

In 2024 Casterton Primary School won both of the trophies, the individual top performing student and the best performing school.

Will the McPherson St ‘Red School’ be looking for ‘a back to back’ in 2025?

Thank you to the local businesses who have already accepted an invitation to renew their entry in the Lions Business Directory for 2025-26.

Invitations to potential new businesses will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.

Copies of the 2025-26 Business Directory will be mailed to postcodes 3311 and 3312 in June.

The Casterton Lions Club will be joining other organisations at the Casterton Community Centre’s Services Expo at the Casterton Town Hall from 11am until 3pm on Saturday 22 March.

This Expo will provide an opportunity for a range of Casterton and District organisations to show the local community what they have to offer the people of Casterton.
