Community members with a passion for and lived experience of disability are invited to express their interest in joining the Grant District Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Panel.
Established in 2022, the Advisory Panel’s core purpose is to advance accessibility and inclusion opportunities for people with disability across the district and is now seeking new members.
Access and Inclusion Advisory Panel Presiding Member and Councillor Katherine Greene said council was excited to continue working with members towards a fully inclusive society that values and respects all people as equal and contributing members of the community.
“Our Advisory Panel plays an important role in supporting council to better understand the needs of our community who live with disability and assists us to deliver relevant actions in our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan,” Cr Green said.
“We are currently searching for independent members with lived experience who reside in the council area and organisational members who work in the disability sector to provide expert advice on how we can increase participation of those with disabilities in our community.”
The Advisory Panel consists of three elected members, up to six independent members and up to three organisational members.
Members meet at least twice per year over a two year term, with the opportunity to be re-appointed for a further two years.
During the membership period, members offer input into the development of various policies and projects, assist reviewing the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, provide advice to council on how to identify issues that are relevant to people with disability and how to priorities such projects and identify opportunities to increase disability access and inclusion.
More information about the Access Inclusion and Advisory Panel and expressions of interest forms can be found online at Your Say DCG or at council’s principal office at 324 Commercial Street West, Mount Gambier.
Expressions of interest close on October 25.
