Cancer support group draws record crowd

Mount Gambier Cancer Support Group members are singing the sounds of success following their Kevin Sporer Day fundraiser which attracted a record 137 people.

The day was headlined by local country music sensation Kevin Sporer and backed up by his hand-selected acts Mark and Wendy Moffatt, Nick McIntyre, Leonie and Michelle, and Stephanie and The Belly Dancers.

The event took place at the RSL Bowling Club last Friday and included a raffle and catered afternoon tea.

Mount Gambier Cancer Support Group chairperson Lorraine Musgrove said the event usually attracted between 100-120 people so this year definelty exceeded expectations.

“There was a full house and it was absolutely marvellous, our community here in Mount Gambier is amazing,” she said.

“I think the numbers were due to a combination of following Kevin and supporting our group.

“Thankyou to the business houses of Mount Gambier for their support, the RSL Bowling Club Ladies for their beautiful afternoon tea, Bare Necessities Lingerie for selling our raffle tickets and Kevin for organising all the artists.

“We are grateful for the guests who attended because their support enables us to continue supporting cancer clients and their families locally.”
