Wattle Range Council would like to see a prominent Labor Party figure become the next State President of the Local Government Association.

There was strong support shown at its recent meeting for the candidacy of the Lord Mayor of Adelaide the Right Honourable Dr Jane Lomax-Smith.

She was a Labor MP between 2002 and 2010 and held the portfolios of Education and Tourism.

Wattle Range Council considered the relative merits of the five candidates for LGA State President at its October monthly meeting.

Mayor Des Noll along with councillors Peter Dunnicliff, Emma Castine and David Walshaw all backed Dr Lomax-Smith as they felt her experience in government and her Labor Party connections would benefit the local government sector across SA.

The LGA alternates its leadership between city and country representatives.
