Candidates on tour

Incumbent member Tony Pasin and challenger Katherine McBride are moving around the extensive Barker electorate ahead of the Liberal Party electoral college at Murray Bridge on May 13.

The next Federal poll is not due until 2025 with Mr Pasin seeking pre-selection for a fifth term while Ms McBride hopes to be the first-ever female member for Barker.

Mr Pasin attended Anzac Day ceremonies at Naracoorte, Penola and Millicent while Ms McBride did likewise at Lameroo and Pinnaroo.

The two candidates also recently pitched for votes in separate addresses to the joint annual dinner of the Millicent and Rendelsham branches of the Liberal Party.

The third speaker was Liberal Member for MacKillop Nick McBride, husband of Katherine McBride, and he confined himself to state politics.

The forum at a Beachport restaurant was attended by a gathering of 25 and was chaired by Rendelsham office-holder Graeme Smith.

Party insiders have told The SE Voice that Mr Pasin remains a clear favourite to win the secret ballot of the anticipated 250 party members in attendance on May 13.

Locals have said Mr Pasin’s proven ability to secure grants will serve him well.
