The weekend’s weather was welcomed by anglers across the Limestone Coast and it was great to hear of so many people getting back out there and onto the water.

The offshore fishing over the weekend was fantastic for most and it was great to see so many boat trailers in the car park at Port MacDonnell.

Jo and Carn Taylor found some lovely bottom fish on Sunday afternoon, with some nice blue morwong and knife jaw coming aboard.

Ryan Ritchie found a mixed bag ofnbottom fish, with latchets, sea perch, flathead and a cracker knife jaw that went 53cm.

Tim Carrison, Anthony Wilkinson and Matt McIntyre fished Blackfellows Caves and ended up with a mixed bag of school sharks, sea perch and a few crayfish on the way home.

There were plenty of fishos who put in the time over the weekend to search for tuna, but have not heard of anyone coming across any.

The surf fishos made the most of the weather on the weekend, with anglers spread out from the border down at Piccininni, through to the Coorong.

Friday night we heard of some nice fish caught up along the Coorong, with the hot spots being basically anywhere north from 10km past the Granites.

Michael Gordon and Aron Coleman found some nice gummy shark up there, but I do not think it matters too much where you fish, they are very spread out.

Grady Janeway has opened his summer mulloway account this week, with a cracker at 32 pounds.

I believe the fellas also got a handful of sharks and smaller mulloway mixed in.

Locally things were a little bit quiet, but there were a few gummy sharks caught down around Piccininni and Paradise.

The weed was a bit of an issue in some spots, but hey, that’s surf fishing.

There have been some nice squid caught this week down in Livingstons Bay.

The clean and clear water has been what we have all been waiting for and it’s really fired the squid up.

Craig fished Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours and managed half a dozen nice squid.

He tried the new shimano clinch flash bolt squid jigs and has nothing but good reports.

After using the new one beside last year’s best performer, the new shimano caught every single squid.

There has been a fair few caught over the last week or so off the Beachport jetty on a mixture of both baited jigs and prawn style jigs, so that area is definitely worth a crack.

There have been plenty of nice gar caught again this week and as has been the case for the last few months, the waders and boaties are sharing in the success.

The waders have done well at Hutt Bay, Petrefied Forrest and Livingstones, while the boaties are doing well at Livingstones and Cape Douglas.

The average size has remained exceptional again and numbers are still impressive.

Port MacDonnell breakwater has produced some nice gar on and off now for the past few months, so that’s another option for both types of angler.

The local jetties have fished well over the school holidays for tommy ruff and salmon trout.

I know of fish from Kingston and Cape Jaffa, though Beachport and Southend and down to Port Mac.

Burley up and they will come.

You can also expect mackerel, trevally and mullet to turn up also, just to name a few.

The Glenelg River has produced some lovely bream and estuary perch over the last week, which was all until Saturday night.

Overnight the water went from a nice productive tannin colour, to a muddy chocolate looking mess.

I have seen photos and videos of fish not surviving the rapid change in water quality, which is never a nice thing to see.

Hopefully the numbers are not too out of control, though any is already too many.

The upcoming weeks forecast looks a bit all over the place, but if the forecasters have it right, we should be able to hit the water again by next weekend, so here’s hoping.

Until next week, safe fishing.

Coatsy.
