Cat leaders commit for two seasons

CASTERTON Sandford has completed an exciting trifecta heading into 2025 finals, with the re-signing of Diarmid Cleary and Colby Munro for the next two years.

Returning full-time to the Cats in 2021 and named captain before taking out the Senior best and fairest trophy in 2022, Cleary stepped seamlessly into an assistant coach’s role this season, first with Jarrod O’Brien, then Max Rooke.

Munro was recruited from Port Macdonnell for the 2025 season and was also given a seat at the Senior coaching group table.

Their re-appointment follows the announcement that Cal Currie will take on the Senior coach’s job in 2026, also re-signing a two-year commitment to play with the Cats.

Casterton Sandford football department’s Tim Gibbs said the pair’s re-appointment was a nod to the club’s behind-the-scenes work over several seasons.

“We have been working on building that stability … for a few years,” Gibbs said.

“Having these three fellas on board, set until 2027, brings us that.”

Cat president, Shane Foster said he was delighted to have the Senior coaching team set so early in piece, which would allow the side to focus on its game, heading into finals.

The Cats enjoyed a rest at the weekend and will head to McDonald Park to take on East Gambier for this weekend’s final round of the home-and-away season.
