Cats claim win in dog fight

In a highly contested match at McDonald Park, Casterton Sandford emerged victorious against East Gambier in a thrilling contest that saw the Cats get their third win of the year.

Casterton Sandford secured an eight point win, with the final scores proving close with East Gambier 83 (13.5) falling just short of Casterton Sandford 91 (14.7).

Right from the first quarter, Casterton Sandford displayed attacking power, kicking three goals.

The Bulldogs fought hard to stay in the game, managing nine points of their own.

The opening quarter showcased the skills of Casterton Sandford as the Cats took an 11 point lead early.

In the second quarter, East Gambier showed resilience and determination, outscoring Casterton Sandford with five goals for the quarter.

However, Casterton Sandford held onto a narrow one point lead, but the Bulldogs had brought the pressure as they searched for their first win of the season

The third quarter saw both teams exchanging blows and producing an enthralling contest.

East Gambier battled hard but the Cats maintained their composure and extended the lead to eight points at three quarter time.

In the final quarter, East Gambier fought valiantly to bridge the gap and seize victory.

But Casterton Sandford matched their efforts and it was a closely contested quarter, with the Cats holding on to secure the eight point win.

The best players for East Gambier in defeat were John Forster, Carl Slape, Nicholas Lock, Patrick Hatch, Frazer Scanlon and Jack Lawrence.

For Casterton Sandford, Hamish McCrae, Diarmid Cleary, Michael Krieger, Dylan Ayton, Nick Schembri and Justin Carlin provided crucial performances and their contributions were instrumental in Casterton Sandford’s victory.

McCrae was unstoppable up forward kicking seven goals for the game.

Casterton Sandford’s ability to maintain the lead and respond to East Gambier’s challenges ultimately secured the victory.

Both teams fought hard for the victory but Casterton Sandford proved too good.
