Centrals hone in on shield

In a one-sided game at Malseed Park Gambier Centrals crushed Glencoe to win the Hoggies Wines Crouch Shield on Sunday.

Day one was a glorious day for cricket and Centrals batted first with openers Dewain Barrett and Julian Tickle keen to get runs in the book against the bowling of Trueman Schrader.

Barrett was the key to Central’s batting scoring 38 on a wicket that was tricky to read.

Next best with the bat was Brent Collins’ 32 and these two were the backbone of Centrals’ 185.

Best of the bowlers was Joshua Agars (3 for 46) with Jed Matthews, Tim Moyes and Matthew Crowe each grabbing two wickets each.

In reply to Centrals’ score of 185, Glencoe’s batting left a little to be desired with the first wicket being claimed by a brilliant run out.

The day only got worse for the Murphies as wickets fell cheaply before being bowled out for 56 in under two hours.

It was the pressure of Centrals’ opening bowlers with Brayden Barker (4/29) and Hayden Sanders (3/4) doing the damage before stalwart Kevin Risley (2/19) destroyed Glencoe’s hopes of chasing the total.

Barker was named man of the match for his great spell of bowling.
