Centrals rattle league leaders

Gambier Centrals and Apollo faced off on Friday night at MGA Park with Centrals coming away with the upset win over the undefeated Apollo.

The first half was very competitive as both sides looked to take an early lead, however Centrals struck first with Rayian Smith scoring the opener for the home side.

The scoring dried up after Smith’s goal with neither side able to find the net and Centrals went into the half time break with a one goal lead.

Early in the second half Apollo got going as Toni Ingley-Smith scored the first for the blue and white to tie the game.

Not long after Apollo’s goal Centrals took back the lead as Jasmine Siemon found the back of the net.

However Apollo responded almost immediately with a goal from Daylia Daylia to tie the scores.

It did not take long for Apollo to crack again as Centrals responded with a goal from Andi Corfield.

After taking the lead Centrals stood strong to hold off Apollo for the remainder of the match, coming away with the huge win.

Gambier Centrals defeated Apollo 3-2.

Centrals coach Wanita Robinson was pleased with the result on Friday, praising the performance from her team.

“I think our girls played really, really good, it was one of our strongest sides we had out and they all played really well,” she said.

Robinson was impressed with the defensive performances from Michelle Vine and Emma Schembri in the match.

“I reckon our standouts were Michelle Vine in our defence and Emma Schembri our goalie, she’s come so far since the start of the season and she had a ripper game,” Robinson said.

Blue Lake v Millicent United

Millicent United headed to Malseed Park on Saturday to face Blue Lake.

Both sides were evenly matched early on as there were no goals in the top end of the first half. However, Millicent changed that halfway through the half as they scored to break the tie.

Lana Shepherd scored the opener for Millicent to give them the lead, with the sole goal remaining the difference at half time.

Scoring dried up in the second half as Blue Lake looked to tie the game up, however their job was made more difficult as Lauren Ferguson was shown a second yellow card and sent off.

With a player down Blue Lake could not get the job done and Millicent came away with the one goal victory.

Millicent United defeated Blue Lake 1-0.

Naracoorte United v Inter

International headed to Naracoorte on Sunday and came away with a solid win.

The first half was competitive with neither side able to score for the majority of the term, until late in the half when Inter scored two quick goals to grab the lead.

Stephanie Gilbert and Isabella Morello both found the back of the net to give Inter a two goal lead at half time.

Inter did well to hold their lead in the second period, despite the constant attack from Naracoorte.

In the back end of the half Inter found some more success as Gilbert scored another to lift her side to a three goal lead.

After battling hard all day Naracoorte finally broke through as Ashleigh Neil scored the lone goal for Naracoorte.

Inter defeated Naracoorte United 3-1.
