Champion Pair crowned

The Millicent Bowls Club held the grand final of the Men’s Championship Pairs on Sunday.

The games leading up to the decider were played on Monday, January 25 with 20 teams taking part in the competition played over 15 ends. After four elimination rounds the two pairs left in the competition were Peter Scanlon and John Buhlmann against Peter Varcoe and Andre Reinders.

The Grand Final was played over 18 ends and for the first nine ends it was a neck and neck battle with the Scanlon and Buhlmann pair leading by just one shot. By the 17th end, with only one left to play, Scanlon and Buhlmann led by three shots.

With one bowl left to play, the score was tied. However, a perfectly delivered bowl by Varcoe drew his last bowl to give his team four shots to win the game by one and claim the title of Pairs Champions for 2021.
