Champs tee off big week

A busy week for the women of the Mount Gambier Golf Club teed off with the Handicap Match Championship quarter-finals.

Jennifer Van Ritjhoven defeated Faye Mainwaring 4/2, Bev Pedlar was too good for Heather Teakle 3/2 and the winners will now meet in the upcoming semi-finals.

The other semi will be fought between Karen Forster and Jan Shanahan who defeated Kathie Ewer 3/2 and Yvonne Shirley 4/3 respectively.

A Stableford event was conducted last Wednesday with 27 ladies participating in calm and pleasant conditions.

Carol Davies (19) played with determination to register the victorious score of 38 points.

Davies’ split was 17/21 and on her back nine included four three pointers and only one wipe-out on the eighth.

Coming closely behind was Maxine McGregor (29) who was unfortunate to lose on count-back.

She took out second placing and also registered 38 points.

McGregor had a great score of 23 points on the front nine including a birdie on the short Par 3 eighth hole.

However, three wipes halted her impetus and she scored 15 points on the difficult back nine.

Third place went to Lorraine Bruhn (40) who loved the front nine with 21 points on her card, chalking-up four points on the second hole.

Next week’s Competition will be a Stableford played in conjunction with the Final of the Handicap Match Play. Finalists will be hitting off at 9 o’clock.

On a cold and windy Saturday 20 women participated in a Stableford competition last weeknd.

Having a very good game of golf and taking out first place was Yvonne Shirley (27) with 40 points.

Shirley had consistent scores of 20 points across the front and back nines.

No wipe-outs were recorded on her card, but one four and five three pointers enabled her to win the day very easily.

Bernie Jennings (18) registered 36 points and won on a count-back from Helen Gregory (15) for second.

The count-back was so close that it went to the last three holes on the back nine where Jennings scored one point better.

Both women had splits of 18 points each.
