Chopper creates waves at Robe

It was a remarkable day for Robe last Saturday as the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter – Adelaide flew to the historic town for the first time in the history of Surf Life Saving South Australia.

The town was said to be buzzing with excitement, with the chopper crew engaging in a community landing before providing water cover for the annual Long Cally Ocean Swim
The chopper was parked on a public reserve adjacent to The Esplanade at Long Beach before hovering well above the 20 swimmers.
The annual Long Cally Swim took participants across Guichen Bay from Long Beach to the Caledonian Inn at the Front Beach.
It is staged each year by the Robe Surf Life Saving Club.
A SLSSA spokesman said the event went well.

“What an opportunity to engage with our passionate surf lifesavers in Robe and provide further support to our South East communities,” said the spokesman.

“Thank you to everyone who visited us and made this possible.”
