Christmas Eve in Millicent

A taste of Millicent’s past Christmas Eve functions has again been provided by a local hotel and a trio of popular musicians.

As in 2023, the Grand Hotel opened its balcony to the public and engaged musicians to perform from mid-afternoon until early evening.

There was no cover charge to hear Jack Lane, Mic Randall and Jason Baker play for a total of four hours and dozens took advantage of the free entertainment.

A spokesman for the Grand Hotel thanked the three performers and said the venue supported live, local and free music.

“What a great way to spend the arvo and listen to three great local artists,” said the spokesperson.

In its heyday in the 1980s and 1990s, the Millicent Business Community Association would arrange for George Street to be closed to vehicular traffic on Christmas Eve.

There would be multiple bands, other entertainment options and food stalls with shops trading until 9pm.

However, interest in staging the Christmas Eve Street Party waned due to a lack of volunteers.
