Christmas season is upon us

Christmas season is upon us

With a twinkle of fairy lights and the toot of car horns, the bearded bloke in the big red suit arrived in Mount Gambier on the weekend.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic joining forces with the region’s famous inclement weather, Father Christmas made a determined appearance along Santa’s Boulevard on Friday night.

Mount Gambier City Council joined forces with NF McDonnell to stage the drive through Christmas display, in lieu of the city’s annual Christmas parade along Commercial Street.

The overwhelming response led to a lengthy line up of vehicles spanning along Lake Terrace East from Pick Avenue to Dohle Road and into Blue Lake Sports Park.

Despite Father Christmas being booked for a two-night appearance, his performance was cut short after heavy rain forced the abandonment of the Saturday night show.

His appearance preceded the Baptist Care Roundwood Solutions Limestone Coast Toy Run, which swapped reindeer power for horsepower and roared through Mount Gambier to the Rail Lands.

The huge convoy of bikes and cars raised $9000 to help children in need this Christmas.
