Church marks 150 years of faithful service

This Sunday will see the 150th celebration of St Mary’s Anglican Church in Penola.

A special combined Holy Communion service will be held at the church in Arthur Street at 10.30am.

Parishioners from Penola, Kalangadoo, Millicent and Beachport will be attending, and Father Lyndon Sulzberger said anyone else is most welcome to attend.

“Anyone that has had a past connection with the church, whether they were married, baptised, confirmed or had a loved one buried from the church is very welcome,” Father Lyndon said.

Special guest preacher will be the Archdeacon of the Limestone Coast Father Neil Fernando from Mount Gambier.

On January 8, 1873, the foundation stone of a new church was laid, and St Mary’s Church of England was consecrated by Bishop Kennion on February 12, 1886 after the chancel was finished.

Following the service there will be a shared lunch at the Penola RSL Hall in Young Street.

Food and refreshments will be available.
