ROUND 1
Mil Lel v South Gambier
South Gambier kicked off their season with a win over Mil Lel in the Globe Hotel Big Bash competition at Frew Park on Wednesday night.
After winning the toss Mil Lel elected to bat.
The Mil Lel openers got off to a solid start in the innings with captain Will Rowland and Will Von Stanke.
Both put up good scores with Rowland making 24 while Von Stanke put 13 on the board.
In the middle of the order Mil Lel struggled a bit as Alexander Stidiford made six while Mitchell Douglas contributed nine.
The low scores continued as Jack Miller was out for a duck with Brodie Pfitzner and Archer Virtanen both making two.
At the bottom of the order Mil Lel got some well needed runs on the board as Vaibhav Patel made 11 with Harry Hicks finishing not out on 16 and Tom Smith ending on nine.
Mil Lel finished with a score of 110.
South’s two top wicket takers were Campbell Hateley who took three and Jed Sims with two.
With the Dees now at the crease they got off to a hot start with Dylan Clough and Robbie Drenthen opening.
Both made big impacts as Clough made 20.
Drenthen on the other hand made most of the runs, finishing not out on 65.
Down the order it was a bit up and down for South as Jed Sims was out for a duck and Carey Megaw made five.
However Cambell Hateley finished the innings strong for South, making 15 to help seal the win.
The only notable wicket taker for Mil Lel was Tom Smith, who claimed all three wickets for his side.
East Gambier v Penola
Penola got off to a hot start with a high scoring win over East Gambier at Allan Scott Park on Wednesday.
Penola’s openers Jack Mullan and Tom Moyle-Read set the tone for the side as Mullan put up 31 runs while Moyle-Read made 20.
Penola continued to build on their run score with solid performances from Bredon Smart with 25 and captain Michael Waters who put up 30.
At the back end of the list Penola could not get much going with no notable run scores, finishing their 20 overs with 134 runs.
With the Doggies at the crease they got away at a good pace as Alex Hill made 16 while Jake Wight added 19.
East got some good production in the middle of the order with Emerson Marks and Alex Hentschke at the crease.
Both Marks and Hentschke put a solid dent into Penola’s score with Marks making 35 and Hentschke 42.
Despite starting strong the Doggies slowed down in the back end of the order as Marc Roberts fell for a golden duck and Connor Little also failed to score.
The Doggies could not make the needed runs in the 20 overs, finishing on 128.
Penola’s Zac Zema was the top wicket taker, picking up three in the innings.
North Sportsmans v West Gambier
North Sportsmans hosted West Gambier on Wednesday night with the Roos picking up their first win of the new season.
The Tigers started the night at the crease with Alex Hutton and Mitch Lewis opening.
Both Hutton and Lewis got away to good starts as Hutton made 20 while Lewis put up 19.
After the strong start from the openers the Tigers were a bit inconsistent as Elliott Fisher made nine while Brad Robinson added 19.
Down the list North stayed in the low singles except for Thomas Madigan who made some well needed runs with 24.
North finished their 20 overs with 118 runs.
With a reasonable score to chase down the Roos wasted no time as openers Justin de Jong and Nuwan Gunawardana got off to a flying start.
Skipper de Jong set the tone with 35 to his name while Gunawardana had a big night with 46.
Jayden Prior came in next and made a big impact to help seal the win, contributing 31 which secured the win for the Roos.
West got the job done in 16 overs, finishing 1/122.

ROUND 2
Penola v West Gambier
On Thursday night West Gambier took on Penola at McCorquindale Park in Penola.
The Roos started the match with the ball after winning the toss.
At the crease James Alexander and Tom Moyle-Read got the ball rolling as Alexander made eight with Moyle-Read chipping in with 14.
Penola continued to build a solid run score as Bredon Smart had a solid performance, making 24.
Down the list Penola had two more solid scorers as Dylan Broad made 37 while Joshua Smith added 10.
Penola finished their innings on 113.
At the crease the Roos did not get away to a big start like they did the previous night.
Justin de Jong put 11 on the board while Nuwan Gunawardana made 12.
Jayden Prior could not replicate his momentum from the previous night as he fell for a duck, however Sam Hunt and Sam Willis stepped up for the Roos in the middle of the list.
Hunt and Willis both had big nights as Hunt made 28 while Willis added 24.
At the bottom of the list West did not have many big run scorers but they had a few who did enough to get them over the line as Shane de Jong contributed nine while Niall Easterbrook and Kyal Chapman both made eight.
West passed Penola’s run total in 18 overs.
Despite the loss Penola’s Joshua Doyle4 still had a good performance with the ball, taking four wickets.

South Gambier v North Sportsmans
North Sportsmans picked up a big win on Thursday night, defeating South Gambier at Blue Lake Sports Park.
The Tigers started the night at the crease and got off to a hot start.
Alex Hutton and Mitch Lewis got some early runs on the board for the Tigers with Hutton scoring 20 and Lewis 19.
The run scoring continued as captain Elliott Fisher added some more runs to the tally with 26.
After Fisher was out it went downhill for North as they had a lot of singles down the board.
The only notable run scorers were Nick McInerney and Nicolas Brown on seven while Declan Kenny and Tim Young both added five to the board.
North finished their innings on 105.
The Dees did not get off to a good start at the crease as opener Dylan Clough made four while Robbie Drenthen was out for a duck.
After the openers the Dees found a bit of life as Hanish Jalota had a solid innings, making 21.
South continued to chip away at North’s lead as Jed Sims scored 10 while Jagger Geary finished up with 20.
At the back end of the Dees’ order Noah Maxwell had a solid impact, putting 17 on the board.
Other than Maxwell, South could not get much more on the board as the Tigers were able to get them all out for only 89 runs to take the win.

ROUND 3
The Globe Hotel Big Bash’s rescheduled round 3 kicks off tonight, with two matches to be played and the third to take place on Thursday evening
The catch up round 2 match between East and Mil Lel will also be played on Thursday night.
Mil Lel v West Gambier
Mil Lel and West Gambier are set to play tonight at Frew Park in round 3.
In this match Mil Lel will hope to get some good play out of their new players to the side from outside of the club like Will Von Stanke from Kongorong.
Inside the club Mil Lel have got a few players who have found some good form in the Barber Shield.
This includes their captain Will Rowland who has had a few solid games lately in the Barber Shield.
Similar to a lot of sides, these T20 games will be good for West to get some more games under their belt which should help them get some better form in the Barber Shield.
East Gambier v South Gambier
East Gambier and South Gambier will face off tonight at Allan Scott Park.
This will be another challenge for South which has quite a young side.
This match up will give a lot of experience to the young Dees who will be going up against an experienced side in East.
This will be a good opportunity to get some early wins on the board for the Doggies.
Given this Dees side is quite young the Doggies should come out on top.
North Sportsmans v Penola
North Sportsmans will take on Penola at Marist Park on Thursday night.
The Tigers will be looking for Nick McInerney to have a big game as he can impact a game with both the bat and ball.
North’s Isaac Mulraney is coming off a great game in the Barber Shield where he took six wickets in an innings.
A performance like that will definitely help North get the win over Penola.
Thursday night will also see the round 2 catch up match played between East and Mil Lel at Allan Scott Park.
