Lifeline South East is inviting community members to the Mel Hirth Lookout on Saturday for the annual Out of the Shadows event.
Lifeline has been observing World Suicide Prevention Day with Out of the Shadows events since 2012.
The events include local walks around the nation providing a safe space for communities to come together and remember those lives lost to suicide and support those impacted by suicide.
Lifeline South East chief executive Leah Griffin said each year more than 65,000 people make a suicide attempt and more than one million contacts are made to Lifeline for support.
“Through connection and the voices of others, we unite to raise awareness and overcome the stigma surrounding suicide and suicide prevention,” Ms Griffin said.
“This year, you can join us and make a difference with your community by walking, talking and connecting with us, if you are unable to attend in person then you may consider planting a thought in our virtual garden to remember a lived one lost to suicide.”
Ms Griffin said the local event was supported by Stand by Suicide, Mount Gambier and Districts SPN, Treasuring Life SPN, Mount Gambier City Council, Grant District Council and Rotary Club Mt Gambier Lakes who provide a community breakfast for attendees.
“We ask that if people do plan on attending, they contact the Lifeline South East office on 8723 2299 so we will know numbers for catering purposes,” she said.
