Clashes set to go down to wire

Casterton Sandford v Millicent

Casterton Sandford will host Millicent on Saturday as both sides look to get back on the winners list after last round’s Limestone Coast Football Netball League losses.

After a week off both sides will be keen to hit the field again with the Saints suffering an eight point loss at home while the Cats were pumped by 64 points against the Roos.

The last time these sides met in round two it was a close encounter as they faced off in Millicent.

The Saints got the points on that day, beating Casterton by 15.

This will be an important contest for both sides as there is a lot at stake.

The Saints will be looking to get back into the top four as they sit in fifth by only four points, so a win on Saturday will boost their chances of climbing back up.

For the Cats, their loss to West resulted in them losing their top two spot as the Roos jumped them on the ladder.

With a lot at stake this game could go either way and certainly will be a tight one like last time.

However the Cats should have the slight edge over the Saints given it’s being played on their home deck.

South Gambier v Penola

The red hot Penola Eagles will head to the Mount on Saturday as they take on South Gambier.

Penola has been one of the top sides in the competition over the past few weeks, winning three straight games and they now have their sights set on the top four.

The Dees will head into this game fresh and keen to hit the field as they have not played a game in almost a month, with their last outing on May 17.

Despite this, South still sits atop the ladder.

These sides last met in round two where it was a big win for the Dees, defeating the Eagles by 68 points.

This should be a very interesting contest featuring one side that is in great form, while the other does not have much momentum going into the game.

Expect a lot of goals from Penola’s Brodie Foster who has been a reliable scorer for the Eagles, while Brayden Kain for the Dees has also been putting together a solid season with 18 majors of his own, which is tied with Foster.

Another who could have a big game is South’s Todd Reid who has been amazing so far in 2025 and has been a big part of their success this season.

This shapes as a great contest and I would not be surprised if it goes down to the wire, however the Dees should be able to pull out the win in this one.

North Gambier v West Gambier

North Gambier will host West Gambier on Saturday as both sides look to advance up the ladder.

Both are coming off big wins last round with the Tigers winning by 65 and the Roos victorious by 64.

It was a solid victory for the Roos in the last meeting between these sides as West won by 31 points.

I expect Kyle Giddings and Jack Casey to have big games for the Roos as they have been in good form lately while Toby de Wit and Chad McLaughlin for the Tigers will certainly cause some problems for the Roos’ backline.

As the Tigers just sit in the top four, Saturday’s contest will be an important one with a win helping them retain a top four spot.

The Roos are well and truly in the top four with their sights on securing the top spot on the ladder.

If they can continue to win then it will put the pressure on South as there is not much separating the two sides on the ladder.

Like most of the games this week, this one should be quite competitive, but I see the Roos being able to come away with the win despite a good challenge from the Tigers.
