Closed-door service station talks held

Wattle Range Council met in confidence last week and via zoom technology to discuss the future of the Caltex Service Station on Adelaide Road in Millicent. Mayor Des Noll said the site was currently owned by council but is operated by Caltex (now Ampol) under a long-term lease that is due to expire on October 31.

“Caltex has informed council they will be vacating the site at the expiry of the current lease; they will be removing the underground fuel storage system; and they will be addressing its regulatory environmental obligations before the lease expires,” he said. “It is understood from other sources they intend to cease trading in early August.

“Whilst the details are to remain in confidence, council can confirm that it is progressing discussions with another operator to secure the ongoing operation of the site.”
