The Millicent Golf Club has exhausted it is cash reserves after spending around $340,000 on course improvements.
The lion’s share of the expenditure was $300,000 for an irrigation system installed by Millicent firm Lonergan and Muhovics.
The club has also erected two unisex toilets at a cost of $20,000 each.
Club president Mark Pilmore said the updated facilities were vital with the Mount Burr course regularly rated the best in regional South Australia.
Mr Pilmore said the course was enjoying greater patronage.
“We are getting large groups from Adelaide who come here to play,” he said.
“While in the district, they might also go out to enjoy a meal at The Tasting Room at Mayura Station.”
Mr Pilmore said the only toilets at the course were at the club house which was erected in 1961.
“We are getting more and more females playing here and so it was necessary to have toilets at two locations on the course,” he said.
“We made multiple applications to the three tiers of government for grants towards the cost of the toilets and irrigation systems.
“The club members were disappointed none of our applications were successful.
“At present, we need to re-roof the 64-year-old clubhouse and upgrade the male toilets but we have no funds to do so.”
The Millicent Golf Club is now focussed on a Royal Doctor Flying Service charity day on April 4 with catering by The Tasting Room.
