The latest thrice-yearly Beachport Street Market on Saturday has been hailed as a success as hundreds of shoppers purchased wares from the 42 stalls along a closed Railway Terrace.
COVID Marshalls ensured all regulatory measures were obeyed while the introduction of a ban on dogs was welcomed in general.
Among the busiest stalls was the foreshore doughnut van manned by the Lions Club of Beachport and Rivoli Bay.
Regular stallholders including Brian and Dawn Atkinson and Neville and Judy Crawford were in attendance.
Youngsters enjoyed the newly-enhanced Susan Wilson Memorial Playground under the grey skies while the undercover attractions included the Beachport National Trust Museum and its thrift shop.
The weather gods were kind to organisers as there was an absence of wind and rain.
The presence of so many tourists, day-trippers and locals over the four hours had economic benefits as well for the bricks-and-mortar Beachport businesses.
The next Beachport Street market will be held over the summer festive season.
The Beachport District Development Association has staged the markets for over 20 years.
The fees paid by stallholders are used by the association for community projects such as the New Year’s Eve fireworks.
Until a few years ago, community markets were also regularly held at Millicent, Rendelsham and Nangula.
