The selection process to fill the vacancy at Beachport police station is under way. The seaside position was recently vacated by Brevet Sergeant Nick Wood after almost two years as officer-in-charge.
His arrival in July 2019 coincided with dedication of a new memorial by Police Commissioner Grant Stevens to late Aboriginal tracker Lanky Cana at the Beachport cemetery. Just before his departure, Sgt Wood laid a wreath at the Beachport dawn service on Anzac Day.
The Beachport police vacancy is one of a number local staffing matters among the ranks of the emergency services. The civilian office manager’s position at Millicent police has been vacant for two months and has been externally advertised.
The CFS is currently seeking regional operations managers for various locations across the State. Senior police have recently resumed their long-running review into the staffing of country stations.
It was suspended in 2020 owing to the COVID situation. The review is set to determine the fate of the Kalangadoo police station which has been unstaffed for almost four years.
