College gets back to roots

Tenison Woods College last week hosted the National Book Launch of a brand new children’s book celebrating the life and times of Father Julian Tenison Woods.

Written and published by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, the book, ‘Julian the Genius’, outlines the life and legacy of a dedicated and gifted priest whose vision and creativity continues to inspire.

The launch was led by Sister Marea Ross, Sister Ann Duncan, and Sister Joanne Linh Le, who presented the book to an audience of Year 5 students and Woods House leaders.

Their reflections highlighted Father Woods’ enduring influence, particularly his close friendship and support of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, co-founder of the Sisters of St Joseph.

Sister Marea shared that Tenison Woods College was selected for the launch after discovering online the deep respect students hold for Father Woods.

She praised the college’s commitment to honouring his legacy and fostering his values of service, learning, and faith.

In a moment of celebration, Parish Priest Father Peter Zwaans blessed and cut a commemorative cake, which was shared among all attendees.

Copies of Julian the Genius will now be used as a teaching resource across classrooms and enjoyed by students as part of their reading journey.
