St Martins Lutheran College has welcomed a new batch of fresh faced student trainees eager to take on roles around the facility.
St Martins Marketing and Events Officer Jason Scheidl said it was pleasing for the school to have the youngsters on board as part of the college community in 2022.
This year’s college trainees are Emily Tully and Tulle Perryman in education support, Mitchell Handford in sport and Kiah Connolly in marketing and administration.
Miss Tully said her position as an education support trainee would give her experience in her desired field of education, with plans to move to Adelaide in 2023 to study secondary education at Uni SA.
She said a highlight of the job was seeing the children improve day-by-day, even with small things like making friends or becoming more confident.
Marketing and administration trainee Kiah Connolly said she applied for the role for the life experience before moving towards joining Victorian Police.
“Being a trainee gives you the ability to gain a whole heap of new skills that can be used in many aspects of the future,” she said.
“This traineeship will improve my communication making it easier to engage in conversation with anyone, which is an important skill to have in the police force.”
Sport trainee Mitchell Handford said he applied as a trainee at St Martins Lutheran College upon completing Year 12 as the position was in a field he enjoyed.
“The position is a great gap-year job and as I was a former student here I knew the staff were all friendly and welcoming,” he said.
“The traineeship will benefit me in many different ways ranging from teaching skills to working in a sporting field.”
Following his gap year Mr Handford aims to attend university to complete an engineering degree or follow his love for sport by becoming a professional golfer or golf coach.
“I believe working in a sporting environment will assist me in pursuing my golfing career while still being beneficial for other pathways,” he said.
