Community groups yet to fly Pridevember flag

No community groups have yet taken up the invitation of Wattle Range Council to fly a rainbow flag this month.

The council has six such flags available for loan to local organisations to celebrate inclusivity and diversity for all as part of Pridevember.

The decision to buy the six flags was made at the June monthly council meeting.

A near-majority of elected members resolved to support the event following consideration of a request from organisers of Adelaide’s annual Feast Arts and Cultural Festival.

The meeting also asked council librarian Janice Nitschke to mount a Pridevember display in the Millicent Public Library and this has been done.

Speaking after the June meeting, Wattle Range Mayor, Des Noll said he welcomed the decisions of council. “Council’s participation in this initiative will help Feast continue its

important role of supporting LGBTIQ+ communities in creating a vibrant, fun and safe South Australian Pride experience,”Mr Noll said.

“It is important that we respect and support all of our community members and especially our youth.”

Any group interested in flying the rainbow flag should contact the council.
