The Millicent community has again come together over the past year to raise an impressive amount of $27,300 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
The RFDS Millicent Support Group presented a cheque to Lindy Allchurch from RFDS Central Operations at the group’s recent annual general meeting at the Millicent Lions Den.
The hefty amount was raised through community donations, raffles, fashion parade, a bowls day and a charity ball staged by SE Property and Management Services.
The donation recognises the 24/7 emergency aeromedical and essential primary health care services of the Flying Doctor which has grown to become the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation in the world.
The RFDS provides a vital service to rural and remote South Australia and needs the community’s continuing support to keep its crews in the air.
The RFDS flies to Millicent, on average, once a week conducting emergency evacuations and hospital transfers.
To date, the Millicent Support Group has raised well over $500,000 for RFDS Central Operations since the group was established in 1997.
The funds go directly towards the purchase and maintenance of the RFDS aeromedical fleet and life-saving equipment.
Meanwhile, the long and fine service to the RFDS Millicent Support Group by its president Ken Haines and secretary Max Blacketer has come to an end.
They stepped down at the meeting and were succeeded respectively by Stewie Pounsett and Sam Fensom.
