Community unites to drive change after family tragedy

Friends and family of Kumari Armener came together for a cruise with a cause
on Sunday, shining a spotlight on mental health.

Beloved community member Ms Armener recently took her own life, with those who loved her determined to ensure her legacy was recognised.

Cruise for Kumari Armener co-organiser Jezza Young said the cruise, which attracted more than 120 entries, was held to honour his friend’s legacy.

“I have never heard anyone say a bad word about her,” he said.

“She was always bubbly, and she was one of those people that you could just tell was in the room.

“It is going to be really hard for her husband Jason and her children in the next few months with Christmas and the New Year.”

Fellow co-organiser Donna Legray said she wanted to do something in memory of her childhood friend and suggested a cruise to Mr Young who already had the idea in mind.

The cruise started at the old Bunnings site and drove through to Ms Armener’s hometown of Millicent.

“I wanted to do something to support Jason and the kids, and he is a car man, so this seemed like a fitting tribute,” Ms Legray said.

“I have many fond memories of our time together and it is great what she has done with the community especially with food delivery app Eat Ezy.

“I want this cruise to also raise awareness about mental health in the region and the lack of mental health services available as well as providing help for Ms Armener’s family.”
