The Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group will again fire up the barbecue on Friday at Frew Park between 7.30am and 9am for the annual ‘Say No to Violence’ breakfast.
Held annually since 2011, with the exception of 2020 due to COVID, the free community breakfast kicks off the United Nations 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
The theme this year is “Take Action, Stay Informed, Invest in Preventing Violence”.
All community members are invited to come along to enjoy a free cooked breakfast from the Lakes Rotary Mount Gambier team with free barista coffee kindly supplied by Metro Bakery and Café and EspressoWorx. This event is also generously sponsored by Uniting Communities -Headspace Mount Gambier, the Sunset Kitchen and Splendid Eggs and supported by the members of the Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group.
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence which ends on International Human Rights Day on December 10.
Not only will the Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group be holding the annual community breakfast, the group will also have the “Clothesline Project” on display in the Mount Gambier Library during the 16 Days of Activism.
The library will display t-shirts designed by survivors of family and domestic violence, and members of the Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group. The aim is to raise awareness of the prevalence of family and domestic violence across Australia and start the conversation that violence is never the answer and can start from such a young age.
The Haven based in the Mount Gambier Library is conducting a program of activities during the 16 Days of Activism. The sessions will be conducted by 12 agency members of LCFVAG. Further details can be found on the LCFVAG Facebook page.
Group co-chairs Jane Zeitz and Tasja Barelds are encouraging community members to attend the breakfast.
“LCFVAG are passionate about raising awareness and action in the community, and visible events like the breakfast brings our community together, encourages conversations, understanding, and a louder voice of zero tolerance for violence against women and girls,” the said.
“So please come along and enjoy a hot breakfast and support our goal in creating positive change towards the prevention of gender-based violence.”
