The Rivoli Bay Jetties Junior Fishing Competition will be held during the first week of the April 2021 school holidays. The competition is suitable for both serious young anglers and those who have never fished before.

The aim is to provide a fun event to grow interest and skill in fishing whilst enjoying the local, natural environment in Southend and Beachport. The competition supports sustainable fishing and encourages catch and release practices. Therefore, for this competition, there are no prizes for catching the “most” fish. “This competition is based on scale fish species and size.

Participants can register from 10am on Monday, April 12 at a briefing and workshop held at the Beachport Recreation Centre until 2pm. The workshop will feature a range of stations throughout the hall providing advice on several subjects including: how to cast, how to bait your hook, how to handle your tackle, water safety and FishWatch.

Those taking part must register to receive an ID laminated angler card for fish photos, scoresheet and competition rules. Take a clear photo of the fish against the brag mat with your ID card and submit anytime.

Once registered, entrants can fish anytime from 12 noon on Monday, April 12 until 3pm on Friday, April 17 to be in the running. Winners will be presented on Saturday, April 17 at a presentation to be held at the Beachport Hotel at 4pm.

Age categories include anglers aged 5 years and under (The Wobbegongs), 6 to 12 years (The Tigers) and 13 to 17 years (The Great Whites).
