Council
to look at strategy-making process

A strategic report on Mount Gambier City Council’s environmental sustainability direction, including investments in waste management and solar panels, will be prepared for review.

Councillor Paul Jenner has called for the report to be prepared, alleging that council had not been working strategically when it came to initiatives around environmental sustainability.

“We have got a number of things we’re looking at, whether it be with waste management, solar panels, there are a raft of things that we’re looking at but it’s come to our attention … that we have not been working in a strategic way,” Cr Jenner told councillors during his motion on the matter.

Cr Jenner received backing from fellow councillors after calling for council officers to prepare a report on the matter, which would aim to inform the budget allocation for sustainability initiatives.

“It’ll help with allocation in the budget process, it’ll help with our decision making,” Cr Jenner.

“Because at the moment … I think we can do
better.”

His motion was seconded by Cr Frank Morello and passed council at its August elected members meeting.
