Council paves way for group expansion

Aproposed expansion of the Millicent Craft Group workshop has recently drawn a step closer.

The long-established group dates back to the 1970s and has been based at the Millicent Community Hub in Fifth Street for over a decade.

Due to an expanding membership, the club has worked towards a six metre addition to its current building.

It has around 50% in cash of the estimated $51,000 building cost as well as an offer of many hours of volunteer labour from the Millicent Lions Club whose own clubhouse is nearby.

As the Millicent Craft Group does not own its building, it is unable to meet the grant criteria of State and Federal Government agencies.

The building is owned by Wattle Range Council and club president Pat Muhovics and secretary Raz McDonald explained the dilemma to a recent council meeting.

In order to qualify for grants, the meeting resolved to transfer building ownership to the Millicent Craft Group and develop a new land lease agreement.

The Millicent Craft Group has 60 members and a waiting list.

Its workshop is used six days per week for pottery and a variety of fibre arts.
