Council plans major infrastructure works

External and internal funding is being sought for major community infrastructure projects at Beachport, Millicent and Southend by Wattle Range Council.

A recent meeting authorised its chief executive Ben Gower to apply to the Thriving Regions Fund – Enabling Infrastructure program for funding for the Millicent Lions Park Upgrade.

Unity Housing and the Millicent Lions Club are also supporting the upgrade which includes toilets and a pump track.

The meeting also supported the decision by the Southend community at a public meeting to progress the option for detailed design of revetment and groyne realignment.

This is subject to Coastal Protection Board grant funding being secured for the project.

The chamber decided to refer the review of the Southend Adaptation Plan for consideration in the 2025/26 Council Budget.

The same meeting considered community feedback on the upgrade of the Railway Terrace carpark in Beachport.

The design option favoured was for 40 vehicle spaces and this will also be referred to the 2025/26 council budget.
