Robe Mayor Alison Nunan anticipates a busy seven months for her fellow elected members and staff ahead of the next four-yearly council elections in October.
Mayor Nunan told the latest monthly meeting the Robe District Council had been through a period of great change with more to come.
“It’s easy to sit back and look at the visible things that have occurred during this time and forget there has been 10 times that amount that have been dealt with behind the scenes,” she said.
“The quality of the information we receive as elected members is comprehensive and now with Cascade and Spend Mapp as well as the detailed financial reports we receive, there is a deeper understanding about how the council business operates.
“This can only result in better decision making in the chamber.
“As we roll into this final stretch as elected members, it is an exciting time as there is so much about to happen.
“Leases to be finalised, parking to be addressed, the Robe surf lifesaving proposal, the recommendations from the Lake Butler marina report taking shape, working through the Asset Management Plans when they are completed and how that impacts our future, the long-term plan for our town (called the 2050 plan), coastal challenges and the continual inching towards retirement living for our residents amongst many other things.
“When I talk with other mayors, it is clear that although we are a small council, we are complex in comparison to most.”
Mayor Nunan said senior staff and elected members would soon start their annual visits to Adelaide and Horsham to talk to non-resident ratepayers.
“There will also be a series of discussions with our Robe and districts ratepayers,” she said.
“These groups all see Robe differently and it is always valuable to hear what people have to say.
“Our budget process has started and now with a differential rating system in place, elected members have some much-needed flexibility in how the rate responsibility can be spread across the community.”
