Senior members of Tatiara District Council have joined Wattle Range Council in questioning the viability of the Limestone Coast Local Government Association.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Lynton Mackenzie and veteran councillor and South Eastern Water Conservation and Drainage Board landholder elected member Miles Hannemann made their dissatisfaction known at the council’s September monthly meeting.
They put forward a motion without notice which stated the elected members of the Tatiara District Council have lost their belief in the ability of the LCLGA to viably deliver economically quantifiable outcomes for the Limestone Coast region and more significantly the Tatiara District Council.
The Mackenzie/Hannemann motion recommended a review and analysis of all areas of the LCLGA organisation with the outcomes and recommendations made fully available to LCLGA member Councils and the LGA.
“Should the LCLGA not agree to a review, we will continue to consider all options, however, unless we see a move towards restructure of the LCLGA, that will result in improved performance, economic efficiency and deliverance of agreed programs, we will consider withdrawing our membership in 2025,” stated the Mackenzie/ Hannemann motion.
It was not put to a vote as an amendment was successfully moved by Crs Richard Halliday and Trevor Butler.
The meeting was deadlocked on four votes each and was passed on the casting vote of Tatiara Mayor and LCLGA deputy president Liz Goossens.
The Halliday/Butler motion states their council strongly supports the LCLGA review and notes the expectation there will be an alternative structure with a lower cost.
