Avacancy has arisen on Wattle Range Council following the sudden resignation of Millicent-based Corcoran ward representative Moira Neagle.
She had contacted her fellow councillors after the monthly council meeting ended on Tuesday night and stated her resignation was effective immediately.
Cr Neagle had earlier participated actively in debates at the meeting which went for 4.5 hours.
Mayor Des Noll told The SE Voice the following morning the process to replace Cr Neagle was under way.
The four-year term of office of Cr Neagle was due to expire in November 2026.
Cr Neagle was first elected to Corcoran Ward in 2018 and re-elected 12 months ago.
She held the position of Deputy Mayor between 2019 and 2022.
The SE Voice approached Cr Neagle for comment on her resignation but she declined.
Her professional career as an educator has spanned four decades and she has worked as a teacher and principal of government schools across the South East region including Millicent North Primary School, Kangaroo Inn Area School, Millicent High School, Newbery Park Primary School, Rendelsham Primary School and Tantanoola Primary School.
Cr Neagle has a close association with the arts and also serves on the Millicent Health Advisory Council and the committee of the Millicent Business Community Association.
