Creative learning opportunity out of this world

My name is Syann Rose and I’m a student at the Independent Learning Centre studying SACE. For my Stage 2 Community Studies activity I have created felt educational toys and an interactive felt board of the solar system to enhance the experience for the children attending the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) event.

Community Studies is a subject where students learn in a community context and interact with teachers, peers and community members. Students set challenging and achievable goals as a part of their community activity.

Students develop their knowledge and understanding in a guided and supported learning program. The National Simultaneous Storytime event was held at the Mount Gambier City Hall on Wednesday.

This is the 21st year of NSS and the children’s story book for 2021 is ‘Give me some space!’ by Philip Bunting. It was read by astronaut Dr Shannon Walker and live streamed to libraries, schools, childcare centres and bookshops throughout Australia from the international space station.

Last year 1297, 000 people participated in the NSS event at over 14,469 locations, making it the biggest NSS event to date.
