Cricketers head to crease for charity

Pink will be the colour of play at Norm Facey Oval in Millicent on Saturday (February 8) when Naracoorte Townies cricketers make their annual visit and meet the Millicent Black Hats.

It has been designated Pink Stumps Day as part of the nationwide fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation and the Breast Care nurses.

It will be the social highlight of the 2024/25 season in the Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association.

The format is expected to follow past games with pink caps and tops, raffles and an auction.

On offer will be a Gray Nicholls bat autographed by test star David Warner.

It has been donated by Gray Nicholls and its sales representative Lee Privitera after an approach by Denton Sportspower co-owner Chris Denton.

“I contacted Lee to see if they could help out with an auction donation and they came back quickly with the David Warner bat,” Denton said.

“It comes with a certificate of authenticity.

“Although the bat is a full-size replica and not suitable for play, it should attract a large sum for the McGrath Foundation.”

Local businesses have donated vouchers while the KCA Millicent Mill has provided a year’s supply of toilet paper for the cause.

Rendelsham has taken part in all three Pink Stumps Days in recent years against Furner/Beachport (twice) and Lucindale (once).

The funds raised to date locally run into many thousands of dollars.

McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals and their families affected by breast cancer by providing invaluable physical, psychological, emotional support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.

All funds raised go towards helping the McGrath Foundation reach their goal of 250 nurses by 2025, to work towards ensuring no one misses out on care.

The foundation is expanding its scope to other cancer patients this year.

The host club will be hard to beat as it is the reigning premier on their home ground in the Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association.
