Cricketers set for season opener

West Gambier v South Gambier

Reigning premiers West Gambier will take on South Gambier in round one of the Zema Estate Barber Shield 24/25 season.

With the Roos playing on their home deck in this one day match they should be feeling good as they look to keep their momentum going from last season.

This season is a fresh start for the Dees as they have reloaded with plenty of young talent in the side.

Last season the Roos handled South fairly easily in a one day and a two-day match.

West has a strong team across the board so if everyone does their job and plays to their strengths then I cannot see them losing.

South are going to need their top players to really step up if they want to get an early season win and with top players like Robbie Drenthen and Elwood Geary it definitely make West’s job harder at getting the win.

I do think the Roos will pick up the round one win.

I think their experience will be too much for the Dees in this game.

East Gambier v Penola

Penola will head down to Allan Scott Park to face East Gambier this Saturday.

Penola are coming off a tough season that resulted with only one win.

They will be looking to improve on last season but it will not be easy as they will be facing a tough Doggies side.

The Doggies ended last season well but fell apart in the finals.

This Saturday they will be out to redeem themselves and facing a side like Penola which they took care of last season will be a great place to start.

I predict the Doggies will come out on top at the Kennel.

North Sportsmans v Mil Lel

North Sportsmans will face off against Mil Lel this Saturday at Marist Park.

After how last season ended for the Tigers they will be out for revenge.

Mil Lel are coming off a solid season but they were never really title contenders.

Heading into the first game of the season North will be fielding a near identical side to last season which came out on top in both meetings with Mil Lel.

With a few new faces in Mil Lel there is a bit of mystery with how they will go which may make this match quite interesting.

If this Tigers team can play like they did last season then they will most definitely come away with the victory.
