Crucial erosion protection bid

Wattle Range Council has endorsed an application to the Federal Government’s Disaster Ready Fund for $1.8m to undertake works associated with erosion protection at Southend.

The decision was taken at the March monthly council meeting.

The application is subject to Wattle Range Council also obtaining State Government funding of 30% of the total project cost.

The remaining $360,000 (Wattle Range Council’s 20% contribution) was referred to the 2025/26 Annual Business Plan deliberation.

Other decisions made at the March meeting were to nominate Councillor Richard Cassidy as Council’s candidate on the South Australian Boating Facility Advisory Committee.

Cr Cassidy is a professional lobster fisherman based at Beachport.

Council has also asked its staff to draft a revised Australia Day Awards Policy which aligns with the Australia Day Council’s Local Government Authorities Guidance and Criteria.

It will be considered by Wattle Range Council at a future meeting.
