The Mount Gambier Cycling Club (MGCC) made a strong impression at the Adelaide Superdrome over the weekend, participating in a cycling carnival held alongside the AusCycling SA State events.
The club proudly sent a full team of junior representatives, all members of the Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy, showcasing their talent and determination on the track.
Among the competitors were Miles Kroon, Molly Opperman, Amelia Milne, Matilda Clark and Ethan McKenny, each giving their best in a highly competitive field.
The standout performance of the event came from Ethan McKenny, who powered his way to victory in the Under 19 Keirin, securing an impressive first-place finish.
Molly Opperman also delivered a stellar ride, claiming second place in the same event but in the Under 15 division, reinforcing MGCC’s strong presence at the carnival.
Unfortunately, the event was cut short due to unsafe track conditions, leading to the cancellation of racing for the remainder of the day.
Despite the setback, the MGCC took pride in their athletes’ performances and the efforts of their organising committee in ensuring the club’s participation in such a prestigious event.
The weekend’s results highlight the depth of talent within the MGCC and the Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy, reinforcing the club’s reputation as a strong breeding ground for cycling excellence.
The team now looks forward to upcoming events, with their sights set on further success in future competitions.
The club is also wishing Molly Opperman all the best at the final AJTS in Sydney next weekend, following by Nationals in Queensland in late March.
