Mount Gambier’s Kai Allen will compete at round two of the Repco Supercars 2025 season this weekend in the Melbourne SuperSprint at Albert Park as the main support category for the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Allen sits 20th in the Repco Supercars championship rankings after his first round debut at the Sydney 500 late last month.
After a mixed bag of results in the first round, Allen said he is looking forward to working with the team to learn and produce some better results over the season.
“I have got the right team around me to try and start chipping away and getting some better results as the year ticks over,” he said.
“I just cannot wait to get out there and keep improving; that’s all I want to do this year is to make sure I improve every time I get back in the car.
“I think we are in a good position to move forward in these coming races.
“I have still got a lot to learn but I think with all the guys and girls at Penrite Racing I am in a really good spot to learn much more and move forward as we go.
“I just cannot wait to keep working with the team and seeing how we go.”
The young gun said he looks up to fellow Penrite Racing drivers Matt Payne and Garth Tander.
“He (Matt) has more experience having driven these cars for three years and he is super talented so wherever I can learn something from him it’s really good that he’s open to help,” he said.
“I can always see everything there but to actually have him put in his two cents worth and making sure that I understand it as a driver … he actually feels the same way that I’m feeling and he knows how it works.
“Also having Garth Tander on the team, he is a massive part of getting me mentally right and thinking of the right stuff and he has obviously been and done it all so having his knowledge and his way of thinking is a massive bonus for me.
“Just coming in after every session or before every session and just going through the main things I need to work on and not putting too much pressure on myself and him just reminding me to go out and drive and enjoy it is a big thing.
“You always listen to someone like Matty or like Garth who has been there and done it.
“I have got very good people me around me who give me great advice and it is great that I can listen to them and trust them because they have done it before and they are very experienced and very successful so I think it is a great position to be in.”
While the #26 Ford Mustang is much different to Allen’s Super2 Holden Commodore, he is getting used to it.
“There is a lot to learn and I am still learning but I am getting very comfortable now and getting an understanding of what the car needs to go fast,” he said.
“I think as soon as I jump in the car at the Australian Grand Prix, I am going to be a lot more comfortable and understand a lot more. I am just excited to get back out there.
“If I just take a step forward every round, I think that would be a very big positive.”
