Sufferers of endometriosis in the South East region are invited to share their experiences at a high-level inquiry.
The State Parliament’s Select Committee on Endometriosis will be meeting in Mount Gamber on September 18 at the Commodore Hotel function room to hear about the community’s experiences with endometriosis.
The Select Committee is keen to hear from young people and seek feedback on the availability of local services in the region.
The public are welcome to observe the hearing from 10.30am.
The Select Committee into Endometriosis has been receiving public submissions since March 2024 and has heard from researchers, practitioners and sufferers – predominantly relating to sufferers and treatment in a metropolitan environment.
Following a hearing in Berri, the committee is looking to hear further regional perspectives in Mount Gambier. In Australia, one in seven women and those assigned female at birth have endometriosis.
Endometriosis can be debilitating, impacting women and girls from as early as their first menstrual cycle.
The impact of endometriosis varies between individuals, but a diagnosis can have significant financial and social impacts.
Those severely affected may need to take frequent time off work and study to manage the condition – this can amount to several days each month.
Endometriosis not only impacts work and study, but the ability to build and maintain social and professional relationships impacting on people’s mental health, including both sufferers and their families and friends.
